National Hangover Day or whatever you want to call it, is here. Hopefully you were on the level of Jordy and Mick (pic above) and didnt get a DUI in the process. Looking back at 2009 is crazy. So many world changing events took place it was one for the record books. For me, 2009 had its share of major downs and a very few ups, a pretty lackluster year. Heading into 2010 is probably the most important year of my life. It basically determines my future state of living and if I can actually in fact keep doing what I'm doing. With the pressure of sponsors, parents, and judging panels I really hope everything works out for the better and I can power through the variables. With that said, I leave to Puerto Rico tonight to get away from it all and plan out my year in complete solitude and figure out what its gonna take for me to get on it and do well....

SHARK ENCOUNTER?

As many of you may know the Cold Water Classic went on in Santa Cruz last week with Nate Yeomans taking it out. This had a large impact, but Eric Giesleman stole the show with his encounter with Great White Shark. There is a video of him explaining the situation and footage of him paddling frantically after the "shark" encounter. I thought this was the heaviest thing ever until about a minute through the interview where Eric says "I was standing/sitting on my board, then the thing came from under me and snapped my board in half." This made me think hmm if a great white shark needed to generate that much speed from the bottom to snap a board clean in half, it wound require at least 10-15 feet. Well lets say Eric has his board about 2 feet under the water of about a 6 foot deep break which leaves 4 feet of room for an 8 foot shark to come up and snap a board. I mean i'm no MythBuster but something smells fishy here. Great White or Bull Seal. You be the judge. Regardless of what it was, if anything did that to me in Santa Cruz I would be scared shitless too and definitely be thinking the worst...

A FRESH START

This "blog" needed a Dr. 90210 facelift, stat. I made the necessary arrangements and for the past day and a half, the face of T&T has been under the knife. After hours of redoing HTML codes, searching the internet for different colors and new design templates, the product turned out to be a simple and bland change where the result is a vast change from the past. The new site is the future.

What I can promise in the near future is enough mentally stimulating photographic bliss to make your computer screen glued retinas bleed from the inside out. Sorry that was a little bit too graphic. But seriously. Enough slacking. Get ready to lose yourself............

Europe. Part Deux

It's been two and a half months on the road, and I actually came home to steamy hot Vero Beach. I was there for about five days and my time home consisted of sleeping, staying in the AC, taking the boat out and spending time with my lady Katie. Other than that, Lake Atlantic produced absolutely no surf and the fishing was absolutely horrible. What a shocker.

After a little tease of being home, I’m now off to the United Kingdom for the Europe WQS series. Theres something like six events in three weeks which is absolutely absurd but there is some crazy points and money to be had so its gonna get interesting. But my journey should take me from the UK, to France, then to Portugal, then to Spain for the Basque Country 5*’s. But other than that its gonna be a fun trip with lots of wine, cheese and baguettes and I hope to make some heats…..

This is gonna be like an atom bomb hitting your eyes. Theres so much junk I gotta post its really not funny and its gonna take me alot of time, so here we go......

I went to Mexico a few weeks ago with Nate Carroll, Anthony Petruso, and Che Stang. We went to some undisclosed spots but we ended up scoring some amazing waves in the middle of nowhere. The place we were at was basically the equivilent of the wild wild west in America but only with Corona and Mustaches. But it was just one of those trips where you wake up at the crack of dawn, surf all day, eat as much as you can, then go to sleep and do it all over again. we were all frothing so hard because californias summer has been pretty malo to say the least. The points were on fire, and it wasnt until the last day where we surfed a wave I could actually make the drop and do something and that was it. As soon as people realized I left, I was back in California with some amazing photos courtesy of Anthony Ghiglia. So that was it. Heres some photos from our 3day-foray.

Alright I arrived back to California and the waves were fun for like a day or two. Then it just went to shit. So Cody Thompson, Phillip Gould and myself just started to f around in California. Going to fairs, hikin up mountains, hitting up shopping places, going to Hollywood and LA every other day and just did abunch of random stuff to kill time and get out of the apartment. So heres some pics from the lay days out here.

But as soon as we exhausted or options for fun, the US Open of Surfing was right around the corner. We all got or game faces on, well chody and pip did, I just wanted to get it over with. But everytime I have the mindset that I just want to go out and surf, I end up pulling though heats. I lost in the quarters yesterday which was an alright result I guess. Should of made my heat but I surfed like a 10 year old. We left the mayhem Huntington beach and the waves were pumping so we took at little detour to the wedge. It must of taken an hour to get down there. So many people were in Balboa Island it was a joke. IT turned out the wedge was like 15-20 foot and I had this really stupid gut feeling I wanted to go out and try to catch one. I mean how many time are you at the wedge whens its pumping with a board and wetsuit waiting in the car? I got my stuff and decided to give it a go. I was the only surfer out and waited about 40 mins before catching one. I ended up having to take a bomb because those were the only waves I could get into. I ate complete shit, snapped my board it half, got held down for two sets and then got a 20 footer on the head. I left pretty damn rattled and got interviewd by a few news stations and it was actually funny.

Surf Contests are weird. Some heats your on, others your off. But one bad heat leaves you with a loss. The american junior pro series is tough one and at the latest contest I finished =25. The waves werent really there but as the old sayin' goes, "everyone has the same conditions."

Other than that, CA has still produced. Ive been traveling up and down the coast, surfing different waves and meeting new people. Its been a blast. But speaking of blast I came across this photo of a Raptor jet breaking the sounds barrier creating a sonic boom. Its really captivating.

So I was at this rad shopping center yesterday and here lied this cool magazine that was free. It s called vice and well, I had to search the meaning in wikipedia to understand what its all about. One Helluva Week

I realize the blog is kinda lacking posts recently and theres one reason for this; ive been doing junk all week. The waves have been pumping, well not pumping but really fun. All my friends are graduating so theres been grad parties literally everyday. And on top of this, i've been locked into doing online school and trying to train alot. But tonight i've finally got some time due to a fierce thunderstorm and get to write about things and give you a massive post....

So first things first....

The last swell we had was fun. I managed to film a session with a young cinematographer named Sean Benik. There was way too many people out that day including 2001 world champ Cj Hobgood. By the thrid or forth day of waves Sebastian Inlet was a joke and started pissing me off so I resorted to some secret beaches in my backyard that were superfun and uncrowded. Then like that, one front came through, and back to flatness.

Moving Onward.....

Vero Beach has actually been pretty fun lately. Like I said above, kids have been going mental everyday and average nights have been that much more exciting. Everyone is just letting the good times roll until shipping off, or going back to college in a few months. On top of that, Mullet have been doing their best to get back up north from the run we had a little bit ago. Snook are completely owning their world. I caught about a 20 lber the other day right before dark with my brother. I dont think anyone could of claimed a fish any harder haha. After a catch like that I called it quits for a few days.....

Modern Collective is a film that follows Dane Reynolds, Mitch Coleborn, Yadin Nicol, Dusty Payne, Jordy Smith, and Dion Agius (there will be special guests in parts of the movie as well). But this is tomorrow, today. I know that I stole that phrase from Transworlds flick last year but literally it is. I’ve been following the blog and some of the frame grabs are retarded. End of an Adventure

My days in California come to a close for the month of May. I had a kinda shocker of a trip until the past week where the waves were pumpin, all the schools are beginning to let out so there are flocks of females every which way, and I had one of the raddest nights of my life in L.A. yesterday. But im sure Florida is gonna be boring when I get home so ill see myself out here again in short order.

Anyways met one of my brothers friends out in LA named "BONES" and a crew of them run a music blog thats mental. Exclusive tracks, interviews, and photos from all the people that actually matter. (This is not where you are gonna find mainstream garbage) visit the site here.

the past week

So I came straight from Europe to California to surf the Nike 6.0 Lowers pro. Well my international ranking wasnt high enough to get into that contest but I surfed the Oakley Pro Junior. Kinda had a shocker of a heat where my strategy did not pay off and I ended up loosing. Anyways the forecast is looking really good here later next week so that will be fun to get some waves and try some new boards and hopefully not get infected with the swine flu.

But im kinda addicted to this band called 'Empire of the Sun.'

It turns out the only place I get time to write stuff on here is at airports. I don’t mind this long layover because I just downloaded a bunch of new music, gonna upload lots of photos and get to write about my six day European foray….

So here I go….

My journey across the Atlantic was amazing. TAP Portugal Airlines definitely went up a notch in my book. The food was good, I got a whole row to myself, the stewardesses were easy on the eyes, and the movie selection was spot on. I arrived to Lisbon at six in the morning, grabbed my bags off the carousel and I made my way to Paco de Arocs, a small costal town thirty minutes outside of Lisbon. It turns out the friends I was meeting up with did not have their cell phones on, so I couldn’t find the house I was staying at. Two hours later Gonçalo Lopez and I gave up the search and headed for the contest site at Carcovelos. It turns out that I surfed that day at the back up site at a beach called Guincho 30 minutes away. Upon arriving at Guincho, I was pretty astonished. The water was crystal clear, the air was crisp and cold, the waves were pumping, and it was in the middle of this massive bay where these colossal mountains collided into the sand and it was a amazing spectacle. I checked the schedule and my heat wasn’t for another four hours so I sat in the car and contemplated stuff. Well the intense contemplations lead to an unplanned three-hour nap. I woke up, unpacked my boardbag and saw a pissed of baggage handler had his way with my magic Firewire. So I did a quick ding repair on the sand and caught a few waves down the beach. But I’m not gonna lie, tired would be a severe understatement of my current state of affairs. I had been traveling for 25 hours, had not surfed in two days and thrown straight into one of the biggest/ costly heats that I will have for the year. All that set aside, I used every ounce of energy I had left and managed to win my heat. Afterwards I finally met up with companions Alek Parker, Dillon Perillo, Brent Reilly, Brett Barley, Nat Young, and Kieran Horn. Everyone made their heats that day so we headed back to the pad we rented. The house was a quintessential European dwelling; it was perched up on this cliff, located off a cobblestone road with an amazing veranda overlooking the ocean. I got settled in, baked a pizza and passed out…That was just Tuesday the 21^st…..

The following day I ended up loosing to WCT Frenchman Mikey Picon and Brazil’s Alejo Muniz (who eventually won the contest). But I got some really good points and walked away with a decent chunk of change and got some time to enjoy my European surroundings.

But this writing thing is harder than I thought. It’s difficult to sum up my five day trip so im just gonna put it this way, Europe was like a first kiss; short, sweet, exciting, and left you wanting way, way more. Hopefully I can hook up with Europe again sometime soon.

I depart to New York now and give you a few songs that like to be accompanied with white wine and crepes….
